at work again - teaching and learning new skills

Yesterday was an exceptional day. THe morning included a celebration with Rosemarie from the Partnership for Housing office. She came, and as mentioned earlier, celebrated the completion of the ramp. Martin and Tom B, David L., Scott P, Bjorn and Peter L., Josh F finished a ramp in two days.

This same group left shortly after the celebration and traveled to Kyle, SD, where they re-constructed the playground donated by Amy, Kayla and Kathy Peterson. Amazingly, they finished the project in one day, including several test runs of the slide and swings.

Elsewhere, the group continued working on the Frankie Martinez Hall. Evan and Bjorn taught Jim Turnquist how to shingle a roof, which will be a skill Jim can use in the future. What a gift the boys gave to Jim. The roof was completed by several people, and the constructed restrooms are safely covered by a new roof.

Underneath the building, Dave Gosen taught Robyn Carley and Ben Harvey plumbing, including soldering copper and connecting PVC. The intentional training that happens here is priceless. People learn how to cook for large groups, how to do plumbing, how to shingle, and even play cribbage. To God be the glory for the expertise and patience of those skilled in labor. It is wonderful to see how people teach others.

Finally, as the plumbing continues, the showers and bathrooms constructed and the playground installed, others are committed to loving children and tutoring in the schools. Krista leads the team well. Yesterday, I stopped by as an observer, and it was a blessing to see the adults and children bonding well. People knew each other by their first names and laughter was abundant. Pastor Lindsay learned multiple cheers from the older girls, and Bob Hanson was defeated in Horse (two days in a row).
